Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma is a Sociologist and Vedic Cosmologist. As a Sociologist he was trained at Patna University, Delhi School of Economics and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has taught at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, Janta Vedic College, Meerut University (U.P) and presently (since 1999) teaching Sociology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. As a Sociologist he has supervised Ph.D. and M.Phil students in their researches on different dimensions of Cultures and Communications in the Contemporary Global village. He teaches a course on Audio- Visual Texts of Culture and Communication Networks to M.Phil students. Recently he has developed a new course for M.A. Students, Cinema and Culture in India. He is a multi-lingual Sociologist who has keen interest in Cinema and Television Industry in the Emerging Global order. As a Vedic Cosmologist he was trained in Bihar, Nepal and Himalayas. He has also studied Vedic Secrets of Symbolic Communication and has done systematic researches in the Brihat Samhita of Varahamihiracharya to understand the planetary influences on the rise and fall of art movements and political-economic formations in human history. As a Vedic Cosmologist he is associated with Kautilya Institute of Development Studies, New Delhi, Society for Indian Thought and Action, New Delhi, Maha Raasa Foundation, Vrindavan, Dabaki Bose Institute of Cinema and Culture, Patna.


In his personal life he is a Buddhist and follows the teachings of Vajrayana Tantra. Since 1994, he has been providing professional guidance to a group of young entrepreneurs of ideas who are engaged in developing institutional structures for a smooth transition of India from a marginal Post- Colonial Society to one of the pillars of the Global Village.
